Personal leadership begins...with a mirror.
     Welcome.  This is the teaching website for John Kuypers' work on developing personal leadership.  We coach and teach clients to focus on their present moment actions and reactions as a way to see themselves as if in a mirror.  This heightened self-awareness leads to positive, self-led growth in maturity, love and wisdom.

Being present is like looking in a mirror.  You can't see your face without a mirror.  When you do look in a mirror, the image you see is only there as long as you keep looking. If you look away, the image is gone. All you have left is a memory of what you look like.  For this reason, rapid personal change takes place for people with the courage and desire to look in the mirror at themselves and the life they are currently having.

Do you have a desire to "grow"?  Do you have the courage to look in the mirror?  It takes guts because you may not like everything that you see.  Our experience is that people are only willing to see themselves this accurately when things are quite desperate - broken marriage, unhappily single, career problems etc.

The present moment is the only time that is real.
Why? Because real things only happen in the present. The past isn't real because it's over and is now a memory.  The future isn't real because it exists as an expectation - a hope, a dream.  "Now" is when your own truth is revealed to you.

 You only have one life to live.
No one else can really know what you should or should not do in your life.  All of us ache to love and be loved. It is the underlying reason we do what we do, even when we make bad choices.  When you are present, you are connecting to the source of love - God.  From a place of love, we make better choices that are true to ourselves.  This is what gives us peace of mind...and impact others positively and effectively.

Present Living offers John Kuypers' method for helping you be more present.
When you learn and apply the principles in any of John's four books, you learn how to be more present, at home, at work, in any situation.  Suddenly, you start making wiser choices that are right for you!  Immediately, your engrained, habit-driven life begins to change for the better.  You are becoming a whole, integrated person that you like - even love!  This is a major reason why being present leads to a better life. You see yourself more clearly when you pick up the mirror of living in the present.

The Serenity Prayer captures the vision for John's work:

O God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time.

Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as he did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it.
Trusting that he will make all things right if I surrender to his will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this world
and supremely happy with him forever.  Amen.
